Air conditioning installation across Brisbane
We install split systems for homeowners, landlords and businesses across Brisbane and North Brisbane, handling everything from site assessment to commissioning: electrical supply, circuit protection, unit mounting, pipework, drainage and final testing.
Single bedroom unit, multi-head system or replacing an ageing split that no longer performs, it's done to manufacturer specifications and Australian standards.
What's included in every installation?
- Site assessment and confirmation of unit sizing for the room or zone
- Indoor unit mounting on appropriate wall structure with correct clearances
- Outdoor unit placement on approved brackets, slabs or ground mounts
- Refrigerant pipework connection between indoor and outdoor units
- Condensate drainage installation and testing
- Dedicated electrical circuit from the switchboard to the outdoor unit
- Electrical isolation switch installed next to the outdoor unit
- Pipe cover or duct where aesthetics or weather protection require it
- Vacuum, pressure test and refrigerant charge verification
- System commissioning, mode testing and remote or controller setup
- Clean-up and handover with operating instructions
Every installation includes both the electrical and refrigeration work by our dual-licensed team (QLD Electrical Contractor #92217 and ARC Refrigeration #AU42842). You deal with one company for the whole job, with no subcontractors and no coordination headaches.
Local installation know-how: older homes vs newer estates
Air conditioning installation in North Brisbane isn't one-size-fits-all. Homes vary in age, construction, ceiling access, switchboard capacity and outdoor unit placement options.
In older suburbs like Kallangur, Petrie and Lawnton, we commonly find limited switchboard capacity, older wiring that may need assessment, restricted outdoor unit locations due to lot size or neighbour proximity, and ceiling spaces that need careful pipework routing. These factors affect how the install is scoped and priced.
In newer estates like North Lakes, Mango Hill and Griffin, homes are often pre-wired for air conditioning but may still need a switchboard upgrade if multiple units are added or the original builder install was minimal. Outdoor unit placement on two-storey homes, pipe run length and pipe cover requirements are common considerations.
We assess each property individually: electrical supply, the best indoor and outdoor unit positions, pipe routing, drainage options, and any structural or access factors.
Signs you need air conditioning installed or replaced
No existing air conditioning
Many older Brisbane homes were built without it. With hotter summers and more working from home, a split system in key rooms makes a big difference to comfort and productivity.
Old system no longer cooling or heating
If the unit runs constantly but the room never reaches temperature, or it's noisy, leaking water or producing odours, replacing may be more cost-effective than repairing, especially if it's 10+ years old.
Renovating or extending
Renovations change a home's thermal profile. A room may now need dedicated cooling, or the existing system may be undersized for the new layout.
Adding rooms or converting spaces
A garage conversion, granny flat or upstairs bonus room usually needs a new circuit and unit to be liveable year-round.
How much does air conditioning installation cost in Brisbane?
A standard back-to-back split system installation is $1,120 including GST. Up and over installs start from $1,200 with the first 3m of pipework included. Every extra is explained before work begins.
Hourly work is $220 per hour incl. GST (1-hour minimum, no callout fee). After-hours and emergency rates are quoted on the call. Most installs are quoted as a fixed price upfront, with no hourly surprises and no "while we are here" upsells.
What's in each installation type?
Standard back-to-back ($1,120): indoor and outdoor units on opposite sides of the same wall. Clean, professional installation, standard positioning, electrical connection and testing, fully operational system on completion.
Up and over (from $1,200, first 3m included): for pipework through ceilings, longer runs or more complex routing.
Condensate pump (from $400): required where gravity drainage isn't possible. Pump supply, standard install up to 3m, fully installed and tested.
Why does pricing vary between installs?
Pricing depends on the property, not just the unit. Common factors: distance between indoor and outdoor units, roof and ceiling access, wall type and mounting, drainage path, whether a dedicated circuit is needed, switchboard capacity, and access to the install area.
A standard install is straightforward and cost-effective. More complex homes need more labour, more materials and sometimes extra electrical work. That's why we define the standard install clearly and outline extras upfront. We don't hide installation costs or bury complex conditions in vague pricing.
| Installation | Price (incl. GST) |
|---|---|
| Standard back-to-back installation | $1,120 |
| Up and over installation (first 3m included) | From $1,200 |
| Condensate pump supply and install | From $400 |
| Extra pipework | $40 per metre |
| Additional electrical cable | From $15 per metre |
| New circuit for systems over 3.5kW | $300 |
| Drainage extensions | Priced to layout |
| Difficult access or complex installs | From $120 |
Every home is different, so extras are confirmed before work starts. See all prices.
Choosing the right system
The right size depends on room size, ceiling height, insulation, window exposure and how the space is used. Undersized units run constantly; oversized ones short-cycle and waste energy.
Bedroom, about 20sqm
Typically a 2.5kW unit.
Living area, about 35sqm
Around 5kW.
Large open plan, 40sqm+
5 to 7kW or more, depending on glazing and orientation.
Rule of thumb
About 120 to 150 watts of cooling per square metre, adjusted for your home.
Inverter vs non-inverter
Inverter systems adjust compressor speed to match the load, running more efficiently and quietly than fixed-speed units. Almost all modern split systems are inverter-driven, and we recommend them for comfort and running cost.
Brands we install
All major brands including Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Fujitsu, Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Carrier. We can recommend based on budget, features and warranty terms, or install a unit you've already bought.
Why quality installation matters
Poor installation leads to weak performance, higher running costs, water leaks, drainage failures, electrical faults, early compressor wear and voided warranties. The difference is often invisible on day one but shows up within months. Common problems we see:
- Indoor units mounted without adequate wall support, leading to vibration and bracket failure
- Pipe runs that are too long, poorly insulated or kinked, reducing efficiency and straining the compressor
- Condensate drains not properly graded, causing leaks inside the ceiling or wall cavity
- No dedicated electrical circuit, overloading existing circuits and causing nuisance tripping
- Refrigerant systems not properly vacuumed, letting moisture damage internal components over time
We follow manufacturer guidelines, use proper vacuum and pressure testing equipment, and commission every system before handover. That protects the warranty and the equipment.
