Retrofitting air con into an established Kallangur home
Kallangur is a suburb of established homes with newer infill mixed in, and that shapes how we approach every install.
Kallangur takes its name from the Kabi word kalangoor, a goodly or satisfactory place. Old Gympie Road once carried Cobb & Co coaches through here, and in the early 1900s the suburb grew as the main road out to the Redcliffe Peninsula until the Hornibrook Bridge opened in the 1930s. Some locals still remember the Space City attraction that stood on Anzac Avenue from 1978 to 1985.
That history leaves a real mix of houses. Older homes were often built without air con in mind: no spare circuit, a switchboard that is already full and walls that need a careful pipe route. Newer infill homes tend to be easier. Either way, a retrofit is about finding the shortest, tidiest path from the indoor unit to the condenser and making sure the electrical side is safe.
The suburb sits between the North Coast railway line on the west and the Bruce Highway on the east, with heritage-listed Anzac Avenue running through it. If your bedroom faces a busy road or the line, a split system lets you sleep with the windows shut, so we pay attention to quiet indoor fan speeds and a good sleep mode.

Can old pipework or wall holes be reused?
Sometimes. If an old unit is being swapped out, we inspect the existing pipe, insulation and wall penetration. Pipe that is damaged, the wrong size or has been open to the air is usually replaced so the new system is not compromised.
Reusing an existing wall hole often keeps a back-to-back install at the standard price.
Adding a circuit to an older switchboard
A new split system needs a dedicated circuit with an RCBO, which costs $180 to $400 incl. GST when the board has room. If it does not, we explain your options, including a switchboard upgrade.
We never piggyback air con onto an existing power circuit.

My Kallangur house has never had air con. Where do I start?
Start with the room you use most on hot days, usually the main bedroom or living area. We check the wall, the outside space for a condenser and your switchboard, then recommend a size using the approach in our sizing guide. Many homeowners add more rooms later.
Can a split system go on an internal wall?
Yes, but it means a longer pipe run through the ceiling or under the floor to reach the condenser. That is a non-standard install, quoted after a free assessment. An external wall is usually cheaper, as our installation cost guide explains.
Do I need a new switchboard for air conditioning?
Not always. If there is space for a new RCBO protected circuit, that costs $180 to $400 incl. GST. If the board is full or outdated, an upgrade may be needed, and we will explain why before any work starts.
How quiet are modern split systems?
Modern inverter splits are much quieter than old window units, especially on low fan or sleep mode. That makes them a good fit for bedrooms facing Anzac Avenue, the highway or the rail line, because you can keep the windows closed.
What happens to my old air conditioner?
We recover the refrigerant using licensed equipment and remove the old unit if you ask us to. Refrigerant should never be released into the air, which is why ARCtick licensing matters.
