EV Charger Installation Kallangur
Kallangur is our neighbour, a short drive from our Mango Hill base. Whether your home dates from the old Anzac Avenue days or is recent infill, we will tell you exactly what it needs for a home charger.

One suburb, many eras of wiring
The biggest variable in a Kallangur EV install is not the car or the charger, it is the age of the house.
Kallangur has been growing for a long time. Before the Hornibrook Bridge opened in the 1930s, the road through here was the main way to the Redcliffe Peninsula, and Old Gympie Road carried Cobb & Co coaches long before that. Since then the suburb has kept filling in as Brisbane's northern growth corridor stretches out, so one street can hold a mid-century house next to a build from the last few years.
That mix is why we never quote a Kallangur charger blind. A recent infill home often has a modern board with spare space and RCD protection already in place, and the job is our standard $990 incl. GST install. An older home might have a ceramic fuse board, a smaller main switch or circuits that were added over the years without much planning. Those boards need checking before anything that draws a steady 32 amps overnight gets connected.
Getting to you is the easy part. Kallangur sits between the North Coast railway line and the Bruce Highway, about 27 km north of the CBD, and it borders North Lakes, Petrie, Dakabin and Murrumba Downs. From Mango Hill we are only minutes away (see our North Brisbane EV charger page for the wider area), which makes a quick look at your board before quoting simple to arrange.
Connex Electrical is based in neighbouring Mango Hill, established in 2014 and led by Darren Standring, a qualified electrician since 1997. Also see Air conditioning installation in Kallangur and Electrician Kallangur.
Signs your Kallangur board needs work first
Rewireable fuses, no spare space for a new RCBO, scorch marks or a board that trips when the oven and air con run together are all warning signs. Any of these can mean an upgrade is needed before a charger is safe to add.
Our guide Do I need a switchboard upgrade for an EV charger? walks through it, and the upgrade itself is priced at $1,320 to $3,850 incl. GST when it is required.
Commuting by train and charging at home
Kallangur station on the Redcliffe Peninsula line opened in 2016, and plenty of households now train into the city and keep one car for local runs. If that car is an EV, it may sit at home most of the day.
That pattern suits a solar-aware charger, which tops the car up from your rooftop surplus during daylight. See EV charging from solar in Brisbane for how it works.
Where the charger should go
The cheapest spot is usually the garage wall closest to the switchboard. If you park in a carport on the other side of the house, the extra cable is $25 per metre and we will show you the measured run before you agree to it.
Kallangur EV charger services
Four common jobs, all scoped after we have seen your switchboard.
Board check and charger install
We confirm your board can carry the load, then fit your 7 kW charger on a dedicated circuit. From $990 incl. GST on a standard run.
Switchboard upgrades
Replacing old fuse boards with modern RCBO protection so your home is ready for an EV and whatever comes next.
Solar-aware charging
Matching your charger to your existing solar so daytime charging uses your own generation. Quoted after we check your inverter.
Three-phase installs
Where your property already has three-phase supply, we install 22 kW chargers for $1,500 to $2,200 incl. GST.

Kallangur EV charger pricing
The standard install is fixed at $990 incl. GST, and we only add items your house genuinely needs.
Because Kallangur homes vary so much in age, the honest answer to "what will it cost?" is the table on the right plus a quick look at your board. Many homes need nothing more than the standard install. Some need a new RCBO. A smaller number need a full board upgrade, and we will explain why in plain terms if yours does.
Every price is written down and agreed before we start, and there is no callout fee on booked work. Curious how long the job takes? Read how long EV charger installation takes.

Kallangur EV charger FAQs
Can my older Kallangur house take an EV charger?
Usually yes, though it may need some work first. The deciding factors are the main switch rating, spare space on the board and whether you have modern RCD protection. We check those before quoting so there are no surprises.
What does a switchboard upgrade add to the cost?
A switchboard upgrade is $1,320 to $3,850 incl. GST depending on the board size and what needs replacing. It is only added when your existing board cannot safely carry the charger. Many Kallangur homes need just the standard $990 install or an extra RCBO.
Should I get a charger that works with my solar?
If the car is often parked at home during the day, a solar-aware charger can make good use of your surplus generation. If you mostly charge overnight, a standard 7 kW charger is simpler. We quote solar-aware setups after checking your inverter.
How close is Connex to Kallangur?
Very close. Our base is in neighbouring Mango Hill, so arranging a site check before we quote is straightforward.
Which charger should I buy?
Choose one rated for your supply, usually a 7 kW single-phase unit, from a reputable brand with local support. Our best home EV chargers guide covers the main options, and we are happy to look at a model before you buy.
Do you handle the Energex side of things?
Yes. Where your install needs an electrical work request with Energex, we lodge it for you as part of the job.
Can you move a charger I already have?
Yes. We can relocate an existing charger, for example from a garage to a new carport. The price depends on the new cable run and whether the existing circuit protection is up to current standards.
