A family suburb where cars do the school run
McDowall is a settled family suburb in Brisbane's north-west, and for many households here the EV will be the car that does the daily rounds.
The suburb is named after Colonel John McDowall, an early settler. Unusually, the school got the name first: McDowall State School opened in January 1975 with 36 students, and the Place Names Board adopted McDowall that same year after residents objected to the council's proposed name of Annand. The school has since grown to close to 1,000 students, and the population has risen steadily to about 7,600.
That gives you a good picture of daily life: drop-offs, pick-ups, trips to McDowall Village on Beckett and Hamilton Roads and runs to Chermside or Aspley. Short, frequent trips are exactly what EVs do well, and a home charger means you start every morning full.
