EV Charger Installation Stafford
High-set Queenslanders, post-war homes on quarter-acre blocks and cars parked under the house or out the back. We install EV chargers that suit the way Stafford homes are actually built.

Charging under a Queenslander
In Stafford the car is often parked under the house or down the side, and the switchboard is upstairs. That shapes every install.
Stafford started as Happy Valley and was renamed in the mid-1880s. The state school opened in 1886, Gourock Estate lots went to auction in 1928, and electric trams ran up to the Stafford Road shops from 1940 to 1968. The suburb's housing reflects that history: original Queenslanders alongside post-war Housing Commission homes on quarter-acre blocks, with younger families now moving in.
On a high-set Queenslander, the board is usually on the upper floor or the back verandah, and the car is parked underneath among the stumps. The cable has to come down from the floor above, often through timber floor framing, to a spot on a stump, a post or a block wall. We plan that route so it is protected, tidy and clear of where you walk and store things.
Post-war homes on big blocks bring a different challenge: a carport or garage built at the back of the yard, well away from the house. In those cases we measure the run, look at whether the cable should go underground, and price it so you can decide whether to charge at the back or nearer the house.
Stafford is about 9 km north of the CBD, west of Lutwyche Road, and we drive down from our Mango Hill base for every job. Also see Air conditioning installation in Stafford and Electrician Stafford.
Old wiring before new loads
Some Stafford homes still have parts of their original wiring, and boards that have been added to piece by piece. Before we connect a charger, we check the board, the main switch and the earthing.
If the board needs replacing, we explain why and price it at $1,320 to $3,850 incl. GST. Our switchboard upgrade guide covers the common reasons.
Garages at the back of quarter-acre blocks
A detached rear garage can be 20 metres or more from the board. Extra cable is $25 per metre beyond the standard run, plus trenching where the cable goes underground.
We give you the figure for the back garage and for a closer spot side by side.
Raise-and-build projects
If you are lifting your Queenslander to build in underneath, plan the charger with the new layout. Running cable before the new walls and slab go in saves time and money.

Stafford EV charger install costs
A charger mounted under the house a short run from the board is typically our fixed $990 incl. GST. The extras in Stafford usually come from the distance or the age of the wiring.
Bringing cable down from an upstairs board is often well within the standard run. A rear garage is where length adds up, so we measure and give you the exact difference.
We do not quote rebates. The written price is the full price incl. GST, and our EV vs petrol cost guide shows what you can expect to save on running costs.

Stafford EV charger FAQs
Can you install an EV charger under my high-set Queenslander?
Yes, it is one of the most common setups in Stafford. We run cable down from the board to a stump, post or wall near where you park, and protect it along the way. Most fall within or close to the standard run.
My Stafford house still has some original wiring. Is that a problem?
It might be. The new charger has its own circuit, but the board, main switch and earthing all need to be sound. We check them first and tell you honestly if anything needs work.
How much more does a charger in the back garage cost?
It depends on the distance. Extra cable is $25 per metre beyond the standard run, plus trenching if it goes underground. We quote it alongside a closer location so you can compare.
We are raising our house. When should the charger go in?
Plan it now and run the cable before the new walls and slab are finished. The charger itself can be fitted at the end. This avoids cutting into finished work later.
Will a 7 kW charger be enough for my family?
For most Stafford households, yes. It adds a day's driving in a couple of hours overnight. Our 7 kW vs 22 kW article explains when faster charging is worth it.
Who lodges the paperwork with Energex?
We do. Where your install requires an electrical work request, it is lodged as part of the job. Our Energex EV charger rules guide explains when it applies.
