Why Narangba charger installs are about distance
On a large Narangba block, the question is rarely whether you can have a charger. It is how far the power has to travel to reach it.
Narangba covers about 43 square kilometres, with roughly 483 people per square kilometre, far lower density than North Lakes next door. It grew from fewer than 1,000 residents in 1991 to 20,910 in 2021 as its rural land was redeveloped, but semi-rural edges remain. That mix gives us everything from standard estate garages to acreage homes where the car lives in a shed well away from the house.
Distance changes the job. A longer run needs heavier cable so voltage does not drop too far by the time it reaches the charger, and the route might cross a driveway or lawn, run underground in conduit or follow a fence line. We measure it, work out the cable size and give you a total price based on our $25 per metre rate for anything beyond the standard run.
With a median age of 32 at the 2016 census, Narangba is full of young families, and most of them drive. The station on the North Coast line got secure parking in its 2014 upgrade, and the Bruce Highway runs straight through the suburb, so a home charger suits both the station run and the longer highway commute.
We travel up the Bruce Highway from our Mango Hill base. Connex Electrical was established in 2014 and is led by Darren Standring, a qualified electrician since 1997. Also see Air conditioning installation in Narangba and Electrician Narangba.
Running power to a detached shed or garage
If the shed already has power, we check the existing sub-main can handle a 7 kW charger on top of whatever else is out there, such as lights, a fridge or tools. Often it cannot, and a new or upgraded sub-main is the safer choice.
If there is no power, we trench or use existing conduit to run a new circuit, sized for the distance. Every metre beyond the standard run is $25, and we give you the total in writing first.
Underground cable: what to expect
Cable buried across a yard must be in conduit at the depth set by AS/NZS 3000, with marker tape above it. We plan the route to avoid driveways, septic areas and garden beds where possible.
If a route is very long, we may suggest moving the charger to a spot closer to the house where the car can still reach it. That can save a lot on cable without changing how you use it.
Will my supply handle a charger plus a shed workshop?
Acreage homes often run pumps, workshop gear and air conditioning. We calculate maximum demand across the property before adding a charger, and can set the charger to throttle back when other loads are high.
If the board is the weak point, a switchboard upgrade is $1,320 to $3,850 incl. GST. See do I need a switchboard upgrade for an EV charger.

Pricing a Narangba charger install
We start from the same fixed base price as everywhere else and add only the cable your property needs.
The standard install is $990 incl. GST for a 7 kW single-phase charger you supply on a standard run. On a typical Narangba acreage job, the main variable is distance: extra cable is $25 per metre, so a charger 20 metres further away than standard adds $500 incl. GST in cable. Trenching, if needed, is included in your written quote.
Many owners find a closer mounting spot saves money, so we always show you the options. For more on install time, read how long an EV charger installation takes.

Measure the run
We confirm where the car parks, measure the route from the board and note any trenching, driveway crossings or shed sub-mains.
Size the cable and quote
Cable is sized for the distance and load, and the quote lists the extra metres at $25 each.
Install and connect
Lewis Cuthbertson or another licensed electrician runs the circuit, mounts the charger and lodges the Energex EWR where required.
Test under load
We test the full run to AS/NZS 3000, confirm voltage at the charger and issue your certificate of compliance.

Narangba EV charger FAQs
Can you install an EV charger in my shed away from the house?
Yes. We run a new circuit or upgrade the existing sub-main to the shed, sized for the distance. Cable beyond the standard run is $25 per metre incl. GST, and trenching is included in your written quote.
How far can an EV charger be from the switchboard?
There is no fixed limit, but longer runs need heavier cable to keep voltage drop in check. We calculate the cable size for your distance so the charger works at its full rate.
Is it cheaper to put the charger near the house instead of the shed?
Usually, yes. Every metre saved is $25 less in cable, and less trenching. If the car can park within cable reach of the house, we will show you that option alongside the shed install.
My acreage has three-phase power. Should I get a 22 kW charger?
If your car can charge at 22 kW on AC, it can make sense. Many cars are limited to around 7 to 11 kW on AC, so check your car first. Three-phase installs are $1,500 to $2,200 incl. GST.
Will the charger trip my power when the bore pump or workshop is running?
Not if the load is planned. We calculate the property's maximum demand and can set the charger to reduce its rate when other equipment is running.
Do I still need an Energex EWR on a rural property?
Some installs need one regardless of location, and we lodge it for you where it is required. Our Energex rules for EV chargers guide explains when.
Can the charger be mounted on a post outdoors?
Yes, with an outdoor-rated charger and a properly fixed post or pedestal. It is a good option for open parking areas on larger blocks.
