Every Aura suburb has slightly different characteristics. Here is what we commonly find when installing EV chargers across Aura and the surrounding Caloundra South area.

Baringa — Aura’s established town centre

Baringa is the most established pocket of Aura, gazetted 2017, with a mix of completed streets and newer stages still finishing. Most homes here have a modern switchboard, single-phase supply, and straightforward cable runs to the garage. Standard installs are typically at the lower end of the price range. Solar penetration is high — we regularly install Zappi chargers with solar diversion in Baringa.

Nirimba — one of Aura’s newer neighbourhoods

Nirimba is one of the newer release areas of Aura, with many homes at or near handover stage. New-build wiring is clean and current, making these properties ideal for EV charger installation: short cable runs, modern boards, minimal remediation needed. Most Nirimba installs are straightforward — Baringa pricing applies.

Banya — active release stages, growing fast

Banya is a high-growth part of the Aura estate, with multiple release stages active. Like Nirimba, most Banya homes are new or near-new construction with compliant switchboards. Longer driveways and rear garages can mean slightly longer cable runs in some stages — we factor this into the quote.

Bells Creek — larger blocks and longer runs

Bells Creek is the most rural-feeling pocket of the Aura estate, with larger blocks and some acreage-style properties. Cable runs are often longer here (15–20m is common), which is reflected in the pricing. Switchboards are generally modern and compliant. Some Bells Creek properties have three-phase supply available — we check at quote and advise if a 22kW charger is practical.

Caloundra West — established homes and upgrade work

Caloundra West is the most established of the Caloundra South suburbs Connex services, with a mix of older homes and newer infill development. Pre-2000 properties here sometimes need a switchboard upgrade before an EV charger can be added safely. We assess this as part of every quote and are straight about whether an upgrade is needed.

Best for: Tesla owners who want seamless app integration. Also works with all other Type 2 EVs despite the Tesla branding. Wi-Fi connected for scheduling and monitoring.

Zappi (myenergi)
Power: 7kW (single-phase) or 22kW (three-phase). Cable: 6.5m tethered or untethered socket. Warranty: 3 years. Price: from $1,200 (unit only).
Best for: Homes with solar panels. The Zappi’s ECO and ECO+ modes divert surplus solar energy directly to your EV — see charging your EV from solar.

Ocular
Power: 7kW (single-phase) or 22kW (three-phase). Cable: 5m tethered. Warranty: 3 years. Price: from $700 (unit only).
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers who still want smart features. Australian-designed, OCPP-compatible.

EVnex
Power: 7.4kW (single-phase) or 22kW (three-phase). Untethered or tethered. Warranty: 5 years. Price: from $1,100 (unit only).
Best for: Multi-user properties, rental situations, or anyone wanting load management built in.

Fronius Wattpilot
Power: 7.4kW (single-phase) or 22kW (three-phase). Cable: 5m tethered. Warranty: 3 years. Price: from $900 (unit only).
Best for: Solar-heavy households. Like the Zappi, the Wattpilot can be set to prioritize surplus solar — charging your EV from solar.

The Sunshine Coast has excellent solar output, making it one of the best locations in Queensland for solar EV charging. With average daily generation of 4–5 hours at peak output, a typical 6.6kW system can add 30–40 km of range per day to your EV — essentially free fuel.

A smart charger like the Zappi monitors your solar production in real time via a CT clamp on your meter board. When your panels generate more power than your home is using, the surplus feeds directly into your EV instead of being exported at a low feed-in tariff (currently 5–7c/kWh in SE QLD). The maths is compelling: charging from the grid at 30c/kWh versus from your own solar at effectively $0 means a typical Sunshine Coast EV owner saves $1,200–$1,800 per year on fuel compared to grid-only charging.

Every EV sold in Australia since 2019 uses the Type 2 (Mennekes) connector for AC charging. All wall chargers we install are Type 2 — meaning they work with every EV on the market regardless of brand. A 7kW single-phase charger suits the overwhelming majority of Aura homes and fully charges most EVs overnight, adding roughly 40 km of range per hour. If you have three-phase power and a vehicle that accepts 22kW, a three-phase charger roughly triples that rate. We advise which is right for your home at the quote.

From first call to first charge, here is exactly how an EV charger installation works with Connex Electrical in Aura:

Step 1: Book a Quote
Call 0474 207 609 or submit a quote request online. Tell us your vehicle, preferred charger brand (if any), where you would like the charger mounted, and whether you have solar. We book a site inspection — usually within 2–3 business days across the Aura estate.

Step 2: Site Inspection & Fixed-Price Quote
We inspect your switchboard (brand, age, spare capacity, RCD type), measure the cable run from board to charger location, check your power supply (single vs three-phase), and assess any access challenges. You receive a fixed-price quote on the spot — no hourly rates, no surprise extras.

Step 3: Charger Selection
If you have not already purchased a charger, we recommend the best unit based on your vehicle, solar setup, budget and installation constraints. We can supply and install, or install a unit you have purchased yourself.

Step 4: Installation Day
We install a dedicated circuit from your switchboard to the charger location, mount the charger, connect all wiring and configure Wi-Fi/app settings for smart chargers. Most standard Aura installations take 2–4 hours.

Step 5: Handover & Compliance
Before we leave we test the charger with your vehicle, walk you through how it works, issue the Certificate of Compliance and lodge the Energex EWR notification. Your installation is registered, certified and ready to use.

Every hardwired EV charger installation in South-East Queensland — including Aura and Caloundra South — must comply with Energex network requirements and Queensland electrical safety regulations. Connex Electrical handles all compliance paperwork — you do not need to contact Energex or any regulator yourself.

Under the Electricity Regulation 2006 (QLD), your electrician must lodge an Electrical Work Request (EWR) with Energex within 5 business days of completing any hardwired EV charger installation. For standard 7kW single-phase chargers, no pre-approval is required. For three-phase 22kW installations or properties where total load exceeds 15kVA, Energex may require a pre-connection application — we handle this too. See Energex approval.

All Connex installations comply with AS/NZS 3000:2018 (Wiring Rules), AS/NZS 61851.1 (EV conductive charging system) and the Electrical Safety Act 2002 (QLD). A Certificate of Compliance is issued after every installation.
