Ceiling Fan Servicing & Maintenance Brisbane | Connex Electrical

Plan Your Home Lighting

A ceiling fan works hard through a Brisbane summer, and like anything with a motor it runs better and lasts longer with the occasional service. Regular maintenance keeps a fan quiet, balanced and safe, and it catches small problems, a loose fixing or a tired capacitor, before they turn into a failure or a safety risk. Connex Electrical services and maintains ceiling fans across North Brisbane and Moreton Bay.

What a ceiling fan service includes

A proper service is more than a dust and a look. When we service a ceiling fan we:

  • Tighten all mounting, canopy and blade fixings
  • Clean the blades and rebalance them to remove wobble
  • Check the motor, bearings and capacitor for wear
  • Test the speed controller, remote or wall switch
  • Inspect the wiring and mounting point for safety
  • Confirm the fan is secure and running quietly on every speed

Signs your ceiling fan needs a service

Book a service if your fan is wobbling, clicking or humming, running slower than it used to, not responding reliably to the remote, or if it simply has not been looked at in a few years. Outdoor and coastal fans should be checked more often because salt air and humidity are hard on them.

Why regular servicing is worth it

A serviced fan is quieter, moves more air and lasts years longer. More importantly, tightening fixings and checking the wiring keeps the fan safe overhead. A $100 service is cheap insurance against a wobbling fan, a burnt-out motor or a $260-plus replacement.

Frequently asked questions

How much does ceiling fan servicing cost in Brisbane?

A standard ceiling fan service in Brisbane typically starts from $80 to $150 per fan, covering tightening, balancing, cleaning and a safety check. Servicing several fans in the one visit usually brings the per-fan cost down. If we find a faulty capacitor, worn bearing or wiring issue, we quote any repair before doing the work.

How often should a ceiling fan be serviced?

For most Brisbane homes, a quick service every 1 to 2 years keeps a fan running quietly and safely. Fans that run year-round, sit in coastal or dusty areas, or have started wobbling or clicking benefit from a yearly check. Regular servicing is far cheaper than replacing a fan that has been left to fail.

Why is my ceiling fan wobbling or making noise?

Wobble and noise are usually caused by loose mounting screws, dust build-up on the blades, a bent blade, or worn bearings. A service tightens all fixings, cleans and rebalances the blades, and checks the motor. If the bearing or capacitor is worn, we let you know whether a repair or replacement is the better value.

Can you service a fan on a high or raked ceiling?

Yes. We carry the right access equipment to safely service fans on high, raked and cathedral ceilings, which are common in Brisbane homes. Please let us know the approximate ceiling height when you book so we bring the correct gear.

Do you service outdoor and alfresco ceiling fans?

Yes. Outdoor and alfresco fans need servicing more often because salt air, humidity and dust take a toll, especially closer to the bays. We clean, tighten and check the seals and wiring, and confirm the fan is still rated correctly for its exposed location.

Is it worth servicing an old fan or should I replace it?

As a rule of thumb, if a fan is more than 8 to 10 years old and the motor is noisy or the bearings are worn, replacement is often the better value. If the fan is newer and structurally sound, a service will usually restore quiet, smooth running for far less than a new unit. We give you an honest recommendation either way.
